So as a gamer I’m plagued with the reality that games are getting more expensive. What used to be a set $50, then became $60 and is now at the base of $70 for an A+ game on it’s release date. For the Standard edition. Most Deluxe or Special edition games will run a full $100+ depending on which costume or cosmetic item you want to flaunt.
The problem here being I just cant afford to drop a hundred bucks everytime a new game comes out and generally once I beat a game I don’t really pick it back up enough to justify spending $70. As an avid gamer, I want to play almost everything at least once so that could get insanely expensive.
There was a solution however – the fix to my financial burden was GameFly. Fun Fact, I used to be a GameFly member way “back in the day,” so when my friend mentioned he was an Affiliate for GameFly it was an immediate connection and I was sold.
So now I can try out these games, see if I like them, and send them back when I’m done, for literally a quarter of the cost. I’m not “shilling” this either, my GameFly Affiliate is currently Pending. I am just THAT satisfied now that I can actually appreciate it’s value.
The first game I chose to rent was Splatoon 3 to try with my buddy Chesus. The same buddy who reminded me of GameFly. So it seemed fitting to do a small review on the game that starts it off.
We only played the Multiplayer side of this game. So this doesn’t cover anything regarding it’s single player mode. But the multiplayer alone covered enough to make the first 10 hours fly by and gave me enough material to, I feel, make a judgment on whether or not it stays in my gaming arsenal.
I also have never played any of the previous Splatoon games, so to me this was completely fresh. Graphics, gameplay, all of it was new. But here are a few points I liked most about Splatoon 3, which I believe are upgrades from the previous game, which is pretty cool that they’ve stuck to their style.
Different Weapon/Clothing options
I always enjoy a decent customization format, and this game covers just that. From the weapons to the clothes you wear each item in this game has a purpose. Leveling up opens more possibilities and abilities or specials. It doesn’t take too long to level up so the sense of “grinding” isn’t apparent, which for me, someone with ADD, that’s a good thing.
SplatFest Events and Constant Community Upgrades
I chose to rent this game during the SplatFest! event. Which brought 3 teams, Nessie, Aliens and Bigfoot, together in an all out 2 on 2 on 4 brawl, if you chose that type of match. The most fun I had was during this mode — Chesus and I won the match against all odds using one heck of a strategy we were able to take the win and prove Nessie was the dominant cryptid. We two noobs took the match and held it till then end. For a gamer, that feeling is awesome.
Events like these are great because again, I get bored quickly so when a game continuously makes it a purpose to release new content I am very pleased. To my knowledge this is often, constantly keeping the multiplayer enthusiasts like myself interested.
Quick Match Load and Quick Spawn times
Splatoon 3 is on it with their load times, having matches available in less than a minute on average and it’s spawn rate within seconds. I personally die/get splatted a lot, so having to wait more than 10 seconds to spawn is a big killer for me. Plus once I learned how to “spawn in” on my teammates, it was a giant game changer, being back on the front lines only seconds after being splatted. Barely missing a moment of action.
The Colors
Splatoon 3’s vibrant colors and eccentric squid-universe leaves it easy for me to get drawn in. It’s bright without being annoying and definitely drives the game with a purpose of covering the screen in YOUR color. Without a doubt this game is not only fun to play but easy to watch as well.
Did it make the cut or did it get sent back?
This was actually a tough one, and if I didn’t have A+ games coming up to focus on I would have kept it for a little longer or even considered it’s purchase. But since Chesus will be sidetracked with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and I’ll be streaming gameplay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, I had to put this one on the back burner, for now. I will most likely buy this game in the future when I can find it used for a bit cheaper. But for now, the 10 hours in were good enough.
My rating for this games multiplayer? A solid 8/10. Only because there were some issues with adding my friends in the game, and I wish there were other maps as the two I did play got repetitive. But that was still a minor complaint, as I only spent 10 hours in.
