10 hours into Star Wars: Jedi Survivor — Dagan Gera, MerRin and the Hidden Path

This games a winner! I’m having a blast with the story, the combat and the gameplay. Very few complaints I would say. I can notice some glitches in the graphics but nothing major. A few stuck poses here and there but nothing to make a huge fuss over. Lets face it, it’s no cyberpunk 2077 fiasco. The gameplay itself is streamline and fluid, hasn’t crashed and I haven’t died due to any glitches. So you can not really beat that in my eyes.

Our adventure brings us to witness a stunning display of power and darkness as Dagan Gera shows us bleeding kyber crystals – pouring his rage into his yellow saber, tainting the color with the red dark side and becoming a dark jedi. Dagan, once a Jedi during the High Republic era, succumbs to the allure of the dark side and the clash between Cal and the newly transformed dark Jedi showcases the meticulous attention to detail in the game’s combat mechanics as Dagan uses his heavier red saber.  Cal, knowing this, urges him to stop but unfortunately his betrayal was too great and he fell to his anger and hatred. The battle was actually pretty cool, showing us the fighting style of a darker and heavier saber. His style was slower but a lot more powerful. It is definitely cool seeing how the developers took care in the different fighting styles within the actual lore of star wars. Taking care to note the different effects of each kyber crystal, its weight and its draw upon the force and the force wielder.

The legendary Rancor lives up to its fearsome reputation as it snatches its victims in its monstrous grip. Helplessly struggling in its clutches, players must frantically engage in button mashing and stick-whirling, desperate to escape its devouring maw. “DO SOMETHING, OH GOD….” It’s a gruesome crunch as your bones are crushed in its jaws. These moments serve as a stark reminder of the game’s difficulty, but also emphasize the magnitude of facing such formidable adversaries. The unnerving crunch of bones serves as a humbling experience, prompting players to swiftly hit the “Respawn” button and tackle the challenge again. Just remember to dodge, you cannot parry a rancor…

Combat is getting so much better and more fluid as I had predicted upon reading the moves list. There are benefits in changing stances versus different opponents along with stances that adhere to my own playstyle, admittedly some of that is a bit of button mashing training from back in the day – I guess it is a talent. But one thing is for sure, being patient and learning the combos is very rewarding. Especially with the blaster stance. You really feel like a wild west samurai at times.

Customization is a thing… choosing the color of my saber is fun as if you know anything about its color it tells you about the jedi wielding it. Whether you are strictly on the light side, both, dark side. You have options to suit. Plus BD-1 can get a bit of a makeover, well actually a complete make-over. However, I am not entirely sure as to whether they affect the stats or not. Since I can’t use a red light saber until new game plus, to my knowledge (I’m avoiding ALL spoilers), and they are known to be more powerful, along with the darksaber, I don’t think the stats are really that affected if you change the color. But I could be missing something too.

So much gosh darn running… if you die, better be prepared to run back, or hope to god there’s a shortcut you remembered to get. And then finally we get A MOUNT. I can not only go up muddy pathways but I can travel at twice the speed. Such a relief and something that makes open world games so much better.

Puzzles are easy to be honest, after 30 minutes of me wondering which way I go. Circle after circle only to find out all I had to do was pick up the same ball I placed down before -_-. So the puzzles are easy if I can just allow myself to not overthink every single situation. And after I became accustomed to the puzzle style the game has, it was much better and I’m actually starting to enjoy them, somewhat. So long as I keep my “Pause for Cause” sessions at a minimum.

Merrin. We meet Merrin when I make it to Jedha, heading there to see an old friend, Cera, not knowing I’d be running into more. There’s an untold romance between Cal and Merrin, and they don’t hide it at all although Cal cannot act on it since he’s a Jedi. We all know he needs to forget that celibacy rule and follow through with that one. Not only can she beat major ass, but she’s hot AF too. And wise, got the all around winner with that one, Cal. Better not mess it up.

The story continues to captivate. We are finally meeting characters from the past game and new, and I have already grown attached to several of them. That is both good and bad, thinking back to all the games and shows where they kill my favorite character and I’m left with a serious WTF face. Everyone is happy right now, something tells me something really bad is about to happen and I need to be prepared. But it’s extremely hard to not get attached to some of these characters… especially Merrin (biased).

I ended my last stream having met Cera and the Hidden Path. Well, part of them. I like how they emphasize to Cal that his efforts are not in vain, and while he’s been causing a serious Rukus, they’ve been able to rebuild much of the Jedi Archives securing a future for the Jedi. It’s always nice knowing what you do is appreciated.

This game won’t be hard at all to push through. I am having a blast fighting the dark side. Although I feel a bit like a traitor.

Have a good one guys –
