Yo, what’s good everyone! If you’re hyped about the upcoming Switch 2, you’re gonna love this news. While we might have to wait a bit longer for a new mainline Zelda game, Nintendo’s got something to hold us over—Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment!
This new entry is set during the Imprisoning War—the legendary battle that went down long before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In this game, you’ll take control of Rauru, Zelda, and other Hyrule champions as they fight back against Ganon’s dark army. The game promises epic battles and fast-paced combat, just like previous Warriors games. Let’s break down everything we know so far!
Trailer
Nintendo dropped the first trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment during the April 2025 Nintendo Direct. Right off the bat, we get a recap from Princess Zelda about how the Zonai and Hylians came together, leading to an age of peace—until Ganon’s forces showed up to ruin everything. This conflict, dubbed the Imprisoning War, sets the stage for the game.
The trailer shows off some intense action, including Zelda and King Rauru facing off against hordes of Bokoblins, Moblins, and more. It’s the kind of large-scale combat you’d expect from the Warriors series, but with that classic Zelda twist.
Gameplay Details
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment serves as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll battle waves of enemies, similar to Age of Calamity, and fight through environments inspired by Tears of the Kingdom. Learn more about the game and other upcoming titles on the official Nintendo website.
Expect multiple playable characters, each rocking their own unique fighting style. So far, we’ve seen both Rauru and Zelda in action, plus Rauru’s sister Mineru—a Zonai researcher who uses various Zonai devices to deal damage.
Who’s Developing Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment?
Just like the previous Hyrule Warriors titles, this one’s a collab between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, with most of the heavy lifting done by Koei Tecmo’s AAA Games Studio. Yosuke Hayashi, who’s been involved with past Warriors crossovers, is leading the project. Check out more about Koei Tecmo’s latest projects on their official site.
