Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! – A Nostalgic and Cozy Return to Kanto

By PlayingAround4Now | Game Reviews | May 2025

Before Legends: Arceus and Scarlet/Violet shook up the Pokémon formula, Let’s Go, Eevee! brought a different kind of revolution—a heartwarming blend of Pokémon GO-style catching and a reimagined return to Kanto, the region where it all began.

We recently revisited Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! on the Nintendo Switch, and wow—this game still hits hard in the nostalgia and comfort departments. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a Pokémon newcomer, Let’s Go is an easy recommendation for chill, low-stress fun with an iconic twist.

🧭 A Soft Reboot of a Classic Journey

At its core, Let’s Go, Eevee! is a reimagining of Pokémon Yellow—the original Gen 1 journey through Kanto. But this time, instead of Pikachu, your partner is an adorable, expressive Eevee who rides on your shoulder (and your heartstrings).

You’ll still challenge the eight gyms, face off against Team Rocket, and catch iconic Gen 1 Pokémon like Charmander, Snorlax, and Dragonite. But now it’s wrapped in a modern aesthetic with smoother mechanics and plenty of quality-of-life updates.

🐾 Catching Pokémon: A GO-Inspired Twist

One of the most controversial (and fun!) changes? Wild Pokémon catching now works like in Pokémon GO—no more battles to weaken them. You throw Poké Balls using the Joy-Con’s motion controls or handheld mode, earning XP for your whole team.

Some fans missed the traditional wild battles, but for us, it made catching feel snappy and engaging, especially during livestream challenges and chill sessions with chat. And shiny hunting? Still super addictive.

🌟 Your Partner Eevee: More Than a Mascot

Your Eevee isn’t just cute—it’s overpowered in the best way. It can learn unique moves like Buzzy Buzz, Bouncy Bubble, and Sizzly Slide, each with added effects like healing or paralysis. It also gets custom outfits, hairstyles, and affectionate animations that give the game strong Tamagotchi energy.

This kind of bond-building was a highlight during our stream—especially when chat helped vote on Eevee’s outfit.

🎮 Co-Op, Connectivity & Extras

Let’s Go includes a drop-in, drop-out local co-op mode, perfect for younger siblings, friends, or casual players. The second player can assist in battles and double your Poké Ball throws—great for rare catch boosts.

You can also connect with Pokémon GO to transfer select monsters into the game and unlock exclusive GO Park content. This feature is a great excuse to revisit your mobile GO collection.

🎨 Visuals & Sound: Kanto Never Looked So Good

From Pallet Town to Lavender Tower, Let’s Go is a love letter to the Kanto region. The bright, cel-shaded visuals, remixed soundtrack, and animated cutscenes breathe new life into classic locations and Pokémon.

While it’s more stylized than Sword & Shield or Scarlet & Violet, the presentation is consistent, charming, and relaxing. The UI is clean and intuitive, especially for handheld play on the Switch Lite or OLED model.

🧠 Verdict: A Perfect Pokémon Gateway Game

Let’s Go, Eevee! may not be the most competitive entry in the series, but it doesn’t try to be. It’s casual, cozy, nostalgic, and ideal for younger players, longtime fans, or anyone looking for a stress-free Pokémon experience.

If you’re looking for a bridge between Pokémon GO and the core series—or just want to vibe with Eevee in an upgraded Gen 1 journey—this one still delivers in 2025.

Rating: 8/10
A chill Kanto adventure with GO-style flair and endless Eevee cuddles.
